A Dental Clinic is a specialized centre that provides services and treatment in oral care. Dental Clinics may be attached to bigger hospitals providing in-patient and out-patient care and treatment or they may be stand-alone clinics owned and operated by private dental doctors and surgeons offering a variety of preventive and diagnostic services as well as cosmetic dental procedures.
A Dental hospital can be manned by a Dentist who is a general practitioner taking care of a variety of patient needs or one who is qualified in any one of nine specialized areas in oral care. Dental hospitals also require the presence of Radiologists, Lab Technicians and Assistants.
There are many diagnostic and preventive services provided by dental hospitals in the oral hygiene and care segment. Some of these are:
• Diagnosis and treatment of problems with gums, mouth tissue and teeth
• Removal of decayed teeth
• Filling of cavities
• Straightening of teeth
• Repairing of fractured teeth
• Corrective surgery to prevent gum diseases
• Fixing of dentures
All these services have to be provided to patients only by licensed dentists, surgeons, assistants and hygienists. Besides these, dental clinics also provide basic dental services like oral examination, teeth cleaning, teeth bleaching, removal of plaque and referral services if surgery is required in the course of treatment. This is one of the important things to remember.
A specialty dental clinic may offer more services in the area of dental care besides regular preventive services. Dental hospitals also educate the public on oral care specifying on factors like diet, brushing, flossing, excessive use of substances that can stain and damage teeth etc. There are complex ranges of procedures that are broadly included in Dentistry depending upon the area of specialization. Dentists who specialize in specific areas of dentistry are called:
• Paediatric dentists
• Oral Pathologists
• Oral Surgeons
• Maxillofacial Surgeons, etc.
A Dental hospital has to follow similar stringent requirements of personal care and hygiene when providing patient services. All Dental Clinics are thus required to be equipped with:
• X-ray machines
• Mouth mirrors
To lessen the likelihood of bacteria and infection spread in a dental clinic owing to the number of problems that are diagnosed, dental clinics have to function in sterile areas and dentists have to follow the same precautions as doctors by wearing gloves, masks and safety glasses. In this way, you can solve your many problems.
