Broken or cracked tooth? Severe pain in one of your teeth? Ever had a dental problem when you are away on holiday or on a business trip? You bit into the snack at the hotel and you broke a tooth or a crown fell out? Finding the dentist you need is not easy.

Here are some simple steps to find a dentist.

Step # 1

Check the internet. But I am away in foreign country! This is not a barrier to finding a dentist that will help you wherever you are in the world from Timbuctoo to Ploiesti in Romania. The key is not to search for what the locals call a dentist. Why? You probably don't speak the local language and you need a dentist that ideally speaks your language or at least understands what you are saying. So the way to search is you go to your internet connection and open your preferred search engine and you search for "Dentist (Enter Town or City you are in)". By searching in your own language you want your search engine to look for sites that are in your language. Most dentists who speak an extra language usually have their web site in the local language and their second language to attract more clients. Once you have found at least one dentist who has a website with a section on it in your language you can move to step # 2.

Step # 2

Now go to the hotel front desk and ask the Concierge to call the dentist and confirm he speaks your language, get concierge to explain briefly what has happened and ask for an idea of the cost to repair temporarily. Once you have this done and you are happy move to Step # 3

Step # 3

Visit the dentist with a car from the hotel and inspect the dental clinic. DO NOT be alarmed by the exterior of the buildings too much but focus on the cleanliness of the dental practice itself. Once you are happy it is clean and you are sitting in the chair make sure you see the dentist open the instruments he will be using in front of you from clearly sealed sterilized packs. Speak with dentist and make sure he can speak your language sufficiently to understand what is required and an idea of the cost.

If you feel unsafe where you are take someone from the hotel with you, the concierge can usually find a staff member for a small fee to accompany you, and get that tooth fixed. If you don't you can ruin a business trip or a holiday BUT you must take care to make sure the equipment the dentist is using is "CLEAN AND STERILIZED" even if it seems a little basic.

So the next time you have a dental problem when you are away from these 3 simple steps should help you.
